Preventive Health Services/Health Education

The Preventive Health Services Program has been developed to improve the health of our patients.By offering health education and wellness programs, Watts Healthcare Corporation (WHCC) seeks to directly involve the members in their own health promotion and health maintenance. Health Promotion/Disease Prevention is the cornerstone of the WHCC health care system.

Description of Programs

Tobacco Control Program

The current main focuses are educating community residents and businesses on the dangers of tobacco use and the affect it has on health status. We also encourage referrals to 1-800-NO-BUTTS for help in quitting.  Staff works with community organizations and assists them with smoke-free policy development and implementation.  The cessation component of the program is designed to help individuals kick the tobacco habit for GOOD via individual and group counseling. Classes are continuous.  There is no break in service.  This helps decrease the relapse rate between sessions.

Health Education, Disease Prevention

The Youth Education and Prevention program (Y.E.P.P) provides culturally sensitive primary drug and alcohol prevention services to a target population of youth between the ages of 9 and 13 years of age. These are children of substance abusers, children who are at risk and those who have been exposed to illegal substances. Y.E.P.P has three components, 1. An educational enrichment component, 2. An after school recreational alternative component, and 3. A four weeks summer program. Staff consists of a program Coordinator, two Prevention Specialists II and two Prevention Specialists I. The Educational Enrichment sessions are conducted daily throughout the school year in 4th and 5th grade classrooms at targeted schools.
