Lorenzo L. Banda
Banda, Lorenzo grew up in South Central Los Angeles during the 80’s and 90’s.
Yes, during the riots and even before, when Latino’s and African Americans were
learning to share community. At an early age he witnessed how society treated
those that were different and lived on the fringes. Fear of standing out and
being bullied, terrorized and or just the fear of others knowing you are
different permitted Lorenzo some form of survival. Many of us grow up like this,
today many young people are still suppressing who they are and what makes them
unique by stifling their true self out of fear, fear that someone will reject
us, fear that family will disown us.
